Acer Liquid goes live with Android 1.6 and 1GHz Snapdragon CPU

Today Acer officially announced the Android-running Liquid full touchscreen handset. Rumors about the handset have been swarming online for several months but it's only now that it gets a proper announcement and we can safely say it's the most powerful Android handset to date (if we don't count the rumored XPERIA X3, of course).

Strangely enough Acer didn't show any photo of the device itself but as far as the specs go, there's no stopping it from becoming one of the hottest names of the season.

Update:

Nearly 24 hours later we have the official Acer Liquid specs and some nice pics of the device. Acer Liquid packs a 1GHz Qualcomm 8250 Snapdragon CPU, identical to the ones found in HTC HD2, Toshiba TG01 and its cousin Acer neoTouch S200.

The handset will run on Android OS ver. 1.6 (codenamed Donut) and will have an Acer home brew UI preinstalled. The Liquid will pack the first 3.5" WVGA display in the Android world. It will use the capacitive technology as its siblings but the size and resolution advantage turn it into a real winner - at least on paper.

The other highlight features of the Acer Liquid include quad-band GSM support, HSPDA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA, Wi-Fi, and GPS. Despite not being mentioned in the press release, we can also expect a 5 MP camera, stereo FM radio, microSD card slot as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

While the price remains a mystery, we have some details on the availability. The Liquid is expected to heat for the stores by the end of November or the beginning of December - right on time for the Christmas shopping.

Vodafone BlackBerry Storm2 is official, boasts excellent connectivity, tech review, report, pda, GSM

Finally, after all those leaks the BlackBerry Storm 2 is official. This second version of BlackBerry touch phone has piles of technology by its name - starting with the amazing piezo touchscreen, right to almost every nuke and cranny of the 802.11 specification (something sorely missed in the original).

The Storm2 is available in two versions, both of them having quad-band GSM radios. The North American version (BlackBerry Storm2 9550) also sports CDMA as well as EV-DO Rev A. BlackBerry Storm2 9520 on the other hand comes single-band 3G with HSPA (2100MHz).
The centerpiece of the BlackBerry Storm2 is of course the SurePress touchscreen. No, it's not the old one, which everyone loved to hate (though it won an award). It's a brand new one, complete with piezoelectric gadgetry, which makes the screen clickable only when the device is on.

Here are the other important features of the BlackBerry Storm2: the screen is 3.25" big with HVGA resolution using capacitive technology, while the autofocus camera has 3.2 megapixel resolution. The list goes on with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, built-in GPS receiver and a 1400 mAh Li-Ion battery.

The battery is capable of 15 days of standby and 6 hours of talk time in the 9520 version. For 9550 those numbers are 13 days standby and 5 hours talk time.

The BlackBerry Storm2 will be available to Vodafone customers in seven European countries and South Africa before the end of the month. A 2-year 35 GBP/month contract will get you the handset for free.

iPhone to include international 3G; unlocked workaround

One of the biggest and most underreported features in the new iPhone 3G is international 3G support. The Murata LMRX3JCA-479 tri-band 3G radio will allow this phone to work in places that have only 3G and no GSM – for example Japan.

As my friend Ole points out, “I also think that the increased international coverage (in terms of where you will be able to buy the phone) will mean that soon you could legally buy an unlocked phone, since some countries require phones to be unlocked.”

So although it will undoubtedly cost a premium (not to mention the cost of the flight) there should be a way to exploit the “international hole” to obtain an unlocked 3G iPhone.

Hi World, ASPA Mobile Phone Repair added a FeedBurner! Blog, blogging

We are back! To spice things up a bit on the internet front, we have added FeedBurner for our blog. The feed link is located here at:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/AspaMobileIphoneRepairUnlock

Ever heard of FeedBurner? Stupid question, huh…

It seems as if the majority of bloggers use FeedBurner to distribute and track the use of their RSS feeds.

Every day I come across blogs showing off the neat little counter proudly displaying how many subscribers they have, just like so…

Read more: http://www.hochstadt.com/why-i-do-not-use-feedburner#ixzz0TitC4lUW

Here is the thing I have with Feedburner.

Feedburner feeds are, per default, in a format that looks like this…

http://feeds.feedburner.com/KeywordPhrase

And more strangely, when you view a blog post in a feed reader their URLs look like this…

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/KeywordPhrase/~3/279888022/

Isn’t this a bit strange? How do you know to which site or post you’re subscribed to or what that post is about?

Another thing is word-of-mouth. Imagine you send the FeedBurner URL of a particular blog post to a friend. You eventually provide a short description to entice him/her to click trough. Yet still, it is fairly hard to imagine what one will find when clicking on such a ghost link.

Whereas, when one sends an RSS feed link of one of my blog posts to someone it is clearer what you will find when you click on it since it serves as a “URL headline.”
